Bucket Brigade is a term coined to describe the process in which a community of folks came together in the midst of a fire disaster to quickly extinguish its flames. One person would fill buckets with water, passing the filled buckets to the next person in line, who in turn continued passing them up the line until the water could be thrown onto the hot flames. This was far more efficient than having everyone run back and forth from the water source to the flames with their own buckets. The bucket brigade line-up ensured a consistent flow of life saving water until the fire was finally put out, and it worked because the community had a common goal and purpose - put out the fire!
When someone is diagnosed with a terminal illness, the effects of that illness can act like fire, spreading uncertainly, fear, and loss of hope. Bucket Brigade's purpose is to bless individuals of any age that have been stricken with terminal illness by assisting in the fulfillment of a hope, dream, or wish. Bucket Brigade passes the bucket to the local churches and community of its nominees, to provide a bucket brigade of hope and support that is ongoing.
We seek accountability through transparency and invite you to read our Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principles by which we operate.
Someone of any age diagnosed with a terminal illness and living in the US can be nominated. Bucket Brigade works closely with the churches and local community of the nominated individual to secure a local fund raising arm and support structure. Once the candidate is officially accepted, Bucket Brigade works with the community behind the scenes to grant the wish of a nominee or perform other acts of kindness that will bring hope to the individual and his or her family. Bucket Brigade provides the back bone of support and guidelines, while ensuring there is an ongoing support structure locally. Click Nominate Someone to read more and download a nomination form.
